Guidelines For Securing Your Home and Possessions

Keeping one's self, personal property and belongings safe is a top priority. For this reason, it's very important to have dependable locks, keys and safes. Locks should be sturdy and secure, safes must be durable and impenetrable. Hi, my name is Matthew and my interest in locks and safes started when I began hearing news reports about an increase of burglaries in my city. Before beginning to secure my home and possessions, I spoke with an experienced locksmith who lives nearby. I also searched online to learn everything I could about the various types of security devices, safes, locks and keys. After securing my home and valuables, I now feel very safe. I am writing this blog to share my information with others so they can be safe in their homes too.

What Should You Do After An Employee Separates From The Company?

When an employee separates from a company, most of the time it is not cause for concern. Regardless of whether or not the employee could be a threat to the business, it is important to take security measures to protect your business, employees, and customers. With a solid security system in place, you could ensure the safety of everyone without having to go to extreme measures. Here are some ways you can secure your business.

Conduct an Exit Interview

One of the most important things you can do after an employee resigns or is terminated is to conduct an exit interview. The interview is not just a chance to ascertain what the employee thought of the business, but it is also an opportunity to retrieve equipment that the employee has that would give him or her access to your business.

For instance, an IT tech could ensure that all electronics, such as a company mobile phone, is retrieved. The tech could also ensure that the employee's access to the server, email, and other access points is deactivated.

If the employee has access to company credit cards or other billable accounts, his or her access also needs to be removed.

Update Your Security System

If you have keyless entry that requires an alphanumeric code for entry into the building, now is the time to deactivate the former employee's code. An individualized access card can also be deactivated to avoid having to make drastic changes to your security system.

A keyed system might need to be updated if the former employee has a key and did not return it. You can opt to rekey the locks that he or she had access to or you can take this opportunity to update to a keyless system. A commercial locksmith can help determine the best option for your budget and needs.

If you believe that the former employee could present a physical threat in the future, review other areas of your security system with the locksmith. Additions, such as surveillance cameras and alarms, can help to make your business more secure and possibly discourage the former employee from behaving in an irrational manner.

Taking the necessary precautions to protect your business following an employee separation is important. With continued access to your business, a disgruntled employee could potentially harm your business or your employees. Working with a commercial locksmith can help you avoid a problem later.
